Jon Flanagan

According to BILD via The Metro, Arsenal are considering signing Schalke star Roman Neustadter on a free transfer; whilst The Guardian report that Jon Flanagan is set to sign a three-year contract with Liverpool.

The German international’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he’s already allowed to discuss pre-contract terms with foreign clubs, and his availability has reportedly caught the attention of Premier League outfit Arsenal – who are expected to execute a midfield overhaul during the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old’s primary position is defensive midfield but he’s featured almost exclusively at centre-half for Schalke this season and has also been occasionally utilised as a full-back throughout his Bundesliga career, spanning spells with the Miners, Borussia Monchengladbach and Mainz.

The two-cap international, who is currently in talks to switch allegiances to Russia – the country of his birth – is also attracting interest from Inter Milan ahead of the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Jon Flanagan is set to extend his contract at Liverpool following twenty months of continuous injury problems. Indeed, the 23-year-old thoroughly impressed during the second half of the 2013/14 campaign, as the Reds unexpectedly honed in on the Premier League title, to the extent that he was put on the standby list for England’s World Cup squad.

But a serious knee injury saw the Mersey-born hotshot sidelined for the entirety of last season and for the majority of the current campaign, making his first senior appearance in nearly two years against Exeter City during the FA Cup’s Third Round in January.

His current Anfield deal is set to expire at the end of the season, creating great uncertainty over his future on Merseyside in recent months. But according to The Guardian, Flanagan is now set to agree a three-year contract with his boyhood club.
