£31m skipper will complete Chelsea or Man United transfer if his club miss out on CL

|

In - Mauro Icardi

According to reports from Corriere Dello Sport, Chelsea and Manchester United target Mauro Icardi will look to leave Inter Milan this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

The 23-year-old finished up as the top scorer in Serie A last season, netting 22 times, and was appointed Nerazzurri captain by manager Roberto Mancini at the start of the current campaign.

That has affected the Argentina international’s form somewhat, recording a decent if unspectacular return of eleven goals in 24 league outings so far this season, but nonetheless, Icardi finds himself a coveted transfer target for some of the Premier League’s top clubs.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City were all linked with the 5 foot 11 front-man during the January transfer window but the latest reports from Corriere Dello Sport suggest a summer scrap for his services between Chelsea and Manchester United – with incoming managers Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho both reportedly avid admirers.

Whether they can complete a transfer this summer will largely depend on Inter Milan’s final league standing, with the Italian publication claiming Icardi will look to leave and the San Siro outfit will look to sell if they miss out on Champions League qualification – provided Chelsea or Manchester United meet the striker’s £31million valuation.

Inter are currently two positions and five points short of qualifying via Serie A’s top three.
