According to reports from talkSPORT, Liverpool are leading Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach captain Granit Xhaka.
Many have compared the Switzerland international to German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, sharing a similar blend of aggression off the ball and culture in possession. He’s averaged an impressive 2.4 tackles, 2.8 interceptions, 1.1 successful dribbles and 82 passes per match this term – but has also picked up three red cards in just 19 Bundesliga outings.

Nonetheless, the 23-year-old remains a known target for the Premier League’s top clubs. He’s been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in recent weeks, whilst talkSPORT – who cite reports from the printed edition of German publication Bild – moot Manchester United as potential suitors as well.
But according to Bild (whose report has been summarised in English by Sport Witness), Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign Xhaka, amid claims manager Jurgen Klopp has already held a meeting with the combative midfielder’s agent regarding a potential Anfield transfer.
Xhaka has continually talked up a Premier League transfer in recent weeks and it’s believed Gladbach value their skipper at around £35million.
