Aymen Abdennour

According to Mirror Football, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger expects to complete the signings of Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze before Monday; whilst The Times report that Chelsea are targeting Valencia centre-back Aymen Abdennour.

Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze were the two stand-out stars as Nigeria lifted last year’s U17 World Cup and were linked with an Emirates switch soon after the tournament in Chile. The former’s brother, Allwell Nwakali, confirmed earlier this week that his sibling is set to sign for the Gunners from Diamond Football Academy.

Speaking at today’s press conference, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed he expects to get a deal for the African duo over the line by Monday. As quoted by Mirror Football, he told reporters; “Yes. The (talks) are progressing well. Of course, there are work permit issues. There are medical issues, because they have to make medicals. It’s progressing well.

“We identified Nwakali as the player of the tournament, basically, and as a top player. We will see if we can manage to get it over the line during this transfer period. [If we can], we will do it. He (Chukwueze) is signing as well.”

Meanwhile, The Times report that Chelsea could launch a late swoop for Valencia centre-back Aymen Abdennour if they sell wantaway defender Gary Cahill.

It was revealed earlier this week that the England international is pushing for a shock move away from Stamford Bridge amid fears his place at Euro 2016 has come under threat due to a lack of game time and Serie A outfit Roma are reportedly considering a last-minute bid.

Chelsea will only sell if they receive an offer too good to turn down, at which point they’ll focus their attentions on Valencia’s Aymen Abdennour. The Tunisian international has struggled since moving to La Liga in the summer but impressed previously during Ligue 1 spells with Toulouse and Monaco.
