According to reports from Sky Sports, Stoke City have emerged as surprise candidates in the race to sign rumoured Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur target Saido Berahino.

After netting 14 times in 38 appearances last season, the West Bromwich Albion star was subject to a series of bids from Spurs during the summer, but the two clubs couldn’t agree on the structure of a reported £25million deal.

The Lilywhites have been tipped to revive their interest in recent weeks whilst Chelsea and Manchester United have also emerged as potential suitors, with both clubs expected to be on the lookout for added firepower during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old’s plummet from grace this season, however, issued just eight Premier League starts by manager Tony Pulis – who has accused the youngster of underperforming due to Spurs’ summer interest – could well deter January advances from the Premier League trio.

And the latest reports from Sky Sports suggest Stoke City are looking to take advantage of the situation with a bid of their own. They describe talks between the Potters and the Baggies as ‘at an early stage’.

Mark Hughes’ side are unlikely to match Tottenham’s £25million offer, but the Hawthorns outfit may be forced to sell for significantly less this month. Berahino’s contract is now into it’s final 18 months and he’s not been a regular starter since the end of last season; both factors will likely have effect on the Burundi-born prodigy’s price-tag.
