Javier Hernandez

According to reports from Shoot, Liverpool have joined Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexico international netted 59 goals in 157 appearances during his four full campaigns at Old Trafford – reaching double figures in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons – before leaving for Bayer Leverkusen in a £7.3million deal last summer.

Now enjoying regular first team football for pretty much the first time since moving to Europe in 2010, the former Red Devils super-sub has been in scintillating form for the Bay Arena outfit this season, amassing 19 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions.

That includes five goals in the Champions League’s group stages and an eleven-strike haul in the Bundesliga – that saw the 27-year-old claim the division’s Player of the Month award for November.

Arsenal have been linked with Chicarito repeatedly since the start of December whilst also Shoot document interest from north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are known to be on the lookout for an understudy to first-choice striker Harry Kane.

But citing reports from Spanish publication Don Balon, Shoot claim Liverpool are now a fixture in the race to sign Hernandez as well. The Reds have scored just 25 goals in 22 Premier League fixtures this season and Klopp appears keen to sign a new frontman, refusing to start Christian Benteke in recent weeks despite injuries to Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings.
