According to reports from The Daily Mail, Chelsea have beaten Manchester United to highly-rated Ajax prodigy Juan Familia Castillo.

Manchester United held talks with the midfielder in November and he was meant to officially join the Old Trafford ranks after turning 16.

But the Ajax prospect’s birthday was last week and it appears he’ll now be joining one of the Red Devils’ Premier League rivals instead, in the form of reigning champions Chelsea.

The Blues are believed to have offered the Eredivisie giants greater financial incentives, whilst the presence of former Netherlands manager Guus Hiddink has also swayed Castillo towards a Stamford Bridge move. He’s currently the captain of Oranje’s U16 squad.

United are currently amid a youth recruitment drive, fearing their academy has slumped behind Manchester City’s, and although they’ve missed out on Castilla, the Carrington outfit secured the services of highly-rated Italy U16 defender Luca Ercolani earlier this month.
