According to reports from The Daily Mail, Liverpool face competition from Arsenal in the race to sign Athletic Bilbao prodigy Inaki Williams.

The British newspaper have dubbed the Spain U21 ‘the fastest player in La Liga’, having set a new Spanish top flight record of travelling at a whopping 22.2 miles per hour last season.

The 21-year-old winger-forward has also produced strong goalscoring form this term, netting ten times in 21 appearances across all competitions and six times in the league.

Williams can operate as a winger or a central striker and Liverpool are ‘seriously considering’ activating his £15.3million release clause, but the Mersey outfit are by no means the only major club interested.

Arsenal sent scouts to run the rule over the 6 foot 1 starlet on Wednesday as he grabbed the winner in a 1-0 win over Villarreal in the Copa del Rey and Arsene Wenger is reportedly considering a January bid of his own.

Likewise, Tottenham have made checks on the youngster this season whilst La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are both known admirers. Their impending transfer embargos could force the Spanish capital rivals to launch bids this month.

Bilbao, meanwhile, are hoping Williams will sign a new contract that will increase his release clause to an eye-watering £76.3million.
