According to reports from Sky Sports, La Liga expert Terry Gibson believes Diego Simeone is not the right manager for Manchester United; whilst The Metro claim Chelsea have submitted a bid for PSG midfielder Marco Verratti.

Louis van Gaal’s future at Old Trafford has come under much scrutiny since Manchester United were eliminated from the Champions League by Wolfsburg last week – further amplified by a shock defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, who lead the Mattress Makers to a La Liga title and the Champions League final in 2014, has been mooted as a potential candidate to succeed the Iron Tulip. But former Red Devils forward Terry Gibson, now working as a pundit on Sky Sports’ Revista de La Liga, believes the Argentine’s attritional philosophy would be the wrong fit for the Carrington outfit.

As quoted by Sky Sports, he said; “I can’t see him anywhere else. It’s such a good fit [at Atletico]. He seems to have the power to run everything, to determine which players are brought in and which players are sold.

“Simeone gets the power and the authority to make those decisions, to play a certain style of football that out of the top three they are still recognised as an underdog and you can play the type of football that the Atletico fans are happy with. To go to Manchester United where they’ve got the oomph with the style of football, I’m not so sure it would be such a good fit.”

Meanwhile, The Metro claim Chelsea have submitted an audacious bid for PSG midfielder Marco Verratti. The Italian playmaker has earned comparisons to World Cup winners Andrea Pirlo and Xavi and is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting midfielders of his generation.

Question marks have loomed over the Blues’ engine room this season, with Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic both struggling for form. But having played a vital role in the Parisians’ last three Ligue 1 titles, the French champions seem unlikely to sell the 23-year-old anytime soon.
