According to reports from The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are still keen on Chelsea target Marko Grujic – but no deal is in place to sign the towering midfielder.

Measuring in at a whopping 6 foot 3, the Red Star Belgrade prodigy has earned comparisons with countryman and Blues enforcer Nemanja Matic. He first drew attention as Serbia lifted the U20 World Cup in New Zealand last summer and has since been linked with Premier League duo Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The 19-year-old confirmed interest from west London in November, telling reporters; “Nemanja Matic is a friend, he’s Serbian and he has been at Chelsea for over a year. He tells me that they want me,” and revealed earlier this month that he’s held talks with Liverpool as well, stating; “I had a talk with Liverpool, but I did not receive yet any agreement. I’m still a Red Star player.”

According to the Liverpool Echo, reports in Serbia this morning suggested the Reds had a £4.4million bid for Grujic accepted, with a contingent expected to fly over to Belgrade and conclude the deal. The regional newspaper claims this is not the case, but that Liverpool are still very much in the hunt to sign the teenage centre-mid along with the Blues and Inter Milan.

Keen to ensure Red Star claim this season’s title and resultantly qualify for the Champions League, any deal for Grujic will likely see him loaned back to his current club until the summer.
