Lionel Messi

According to reports from The Daily Star, Barcelona star Lionel Messi would be interested in a move to the Premier League – but only if a club can meet his monolithic wage demands.

The Argentina international is one of the greatest footballers of all time, having won a record four Ballon d’Ors and four Champions League titles by the relatively tender age of 28 whilst becoming the all-time leading top scorer in both La Liga and Barcelona history.

The 5 foot 7 forward previously claimed he wants to retire at the Nou Camp and the Catalans are reportedly preparing a contract offer to make that dream a reality. But recent tax fraud allegations have marred Messi’s love affair with Spanish football, with he and father Jorge facing trial that could result in jail time.

It has increased speculation that Messi could look for a new challenge abroad, with reports last month claiming the Barcelona icon is learning English and has already been contacted by Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

According to The Star, the 105-cap international would be open to a move to the Premier League with Arsenal his preferred destination, but only if a club is willing to pay him £600k per week.

That equates to £18million per year after tax, which begs the question; is Messi worth such monolithic wages? Let us know by commenting below.
