Chelsea to dump star striker in January; Spurs eye bid for 33-cap international

Diego Costa

According to reports from Mirror Football, Chelsea will look to offload star striker Diego Costa in January; whilst The Daily Star claim Tottenham Hotspur are chasing Dynamo Kiev’s Domagoj Vida.

Mirror Football allege the Blues considered cashing-in on the Spain international during the summer, despite firing Jose Mourinho’s side to the Premier League title in his debut season with 20 goals in 26 league outings.

Having scored just three times in all competitions since the start of the season, it appears the 27-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge is in doubt once again, following rumours of a major player overhaul in the coming transfer window.

If Chelsea can secure replacement firepower in January, they’ll sell Costa in the process. Should none of their strike target be available, Mirror Football claim the 6 foot 2 front man will be jettisoned in the summer instead.

Meanwhile, The Daily Star claim Tottenham Hotspur have been running the rule over Dynamo Kiev defender Domagoj Vida. Scouts were present as the Ukranian outfit lost to Chelsea in the Champions League earlier this month, but they’ve also watched the 26-year-old in action for Croatia several times this season.

The 33-cap international’s versatility is the biggest factor behind Spurs’ apparent interest, viewing him as ideal cover for right-back and centre-back now that Eric Dier is thought of almost exclusively as a defensive midfielder. The Lilywhites are now ‘weighing up’ a £7million bid.
