Victor Valdes

According to reports from Spanish publication Don Balon, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping to sign Manchester United misfit Victor Valdes over reported target Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The German international, who lifted the Champions League title with Barcelona last season and claimed UEFA’s Save of the Year award, was linked with an Anfield move earlier this week – with Jurgen Klopp reportedly unconvinced by the recent efforts of Liverpool No.1 Simon Mignolet.

But according to Don Balon, Manchester United misfit Victor Valdes takes preference over ter Stegen in his list of potential replacements for the Belgium international.

The Spaniard was heavily linked with a move to Merseyside before joining the Old Trafford ranks on a free transfer in January 2015 and has been mooted once again since falling afoul of Louis van Gaal during the summer.

The 33 year-old was transfer listed by the United boss after refusing to represent the Red Devils’ U21 squad and has since been made to train on his own at Carrington.

Agent Giles Carvajal recently confirmed he expects the former Barcelona No.1 to leave the club in January with a preference to stay in the Premier League. United, however, will reportedly only terminate Valdes’ contract six months early if he agrees to move abroad.
