On Monday November 9th, the hotly-anticipated documentary detailing Cristiano Ronaldo’s incredible career will hit cinema theatres worldwide.
Simply titled Ronaldo, the film was shot over fourteen months and boasts BATFA award-winner Asif Kapadia as its executive producer – the director who depicted the lives and deaths of Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna and singer Amy Winehouse in likewise documentaries, Senna and Amy.
It is a rare occurrence when we’re given an authentic insight into the life of the modern footballer, let alone one as successful as Ronaldo. A three-time Ballon d’Or winner and two-time Champions League winner with two of the biggest clubs in the world, Manchester United and Real Madrid, the Portuguese is unquestionably one of the beautiful game’s all-time greats.
His modest upbringing in Portugal, his development at Sporting Lisbon, his six incredible years at Old Trafford and his legendary rivalry with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi are all touched upon in the documentary. So whether you’re a Manchester United fan or not, the 30 year-old’s new film contains something for all viewers to get their teeth into.
