Granit Xhaka

According to reports from The Express, Liverpool are preparing a January bid for Borussia Monchengladbach star Granit Xhaka.

The deep-lying midfielder is a mainstay for both the Bundesliga outfit and the Swiss national team, having claimed 39 caps since his debut under Ottmar Hitzfeld in 2011 – who quickly dubbed him ‘the young Schweinsteiger’.

The 23-year-old certainly shares some traits with the German World Cup winner, particularly his upper-body strength and consistent passing game, and has been in good form this season to find three goals in eleven league appearances.

That lead to reported interest from Arsenal over the weekend, amid concerns the Gunners’ ongoing injury crisis could eat away at their Premier League title bid.

But according to The Express, who cite German publication SportBild, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made Xhaka his primary target for the January transfer window. They claim the Reds are preparing a £20million bid as the German looks to imprint his own philosophy on the Anfield squad, viewing Bundesliga imports as an important part of the process.
