According to reports from The Chronicle yesterday morning, Newcastle United are waiting on approval from the Premier League to sign a goalkeeper on emergency loan.
No.1 Tim Krul has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an injury on international duty with the Netherlands, whilst understudies Rob Elloit and Karl Darlow have now joined him on the sidelines with shorter-term ailments.
That leaves the Magpies down to one fit goalkeeper in highly-rated but dangerously inexperienced 18 year-old Freddie Woodman and according to The Chronicle, they’re now waiting on Premier League approval to sign another shot-stopper on emergency loan.
Unsurprisingly, the news has seen them linked with Manchester United’s Victor Valdes once again – a rumour that originally emerged immediately following Krul’s injury in mid-October.
Agent Giles Carvajal has already confirmed the three-time Champions League winner’s intentions to leave Old Trafford as soon as possible, with a preference to stay in the Premier League, after being transfer listed by manager Louis van Gaal during the summer. He’s since been made to train away from the rest of the first team at Carrington.
Crystal Palace’s veteran ‘keeper Julian Speroni has also been mooted as a potential loan target by South London Press.
