Neymar

According to reports from Sky Sports this afternoon, Barcelona technical director Roberto Fernandez has claimed Neymar will remain at the Nou Camp for ‘the rest of his life’.

Fernandez’ comments do not come in a vacuum. The 23 year-old, who bagged 39 goals in 51 appearances last season to help fire Barcelona to a La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey treble, was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer.

Reports claimed he would ‘consider‘ a move to Old Trafford and the 5 foot 9 attacker has since admitted to holding discussions with the Red Devils. “We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete. I heard that there were offers, but none made it to me,” said the Brazil international in September.

Barcelona have been trying to tie Neymar down to a new contract since the summer and reports this morning suggested he’s currently stalling on negotiations – news which will undoubtedly have pricked the ears of United boss Louis van Gaal.

But in a clear ‘hands-off’ warning to the Premier League outfit, who Sky Sports allege were prepared to activate Neymar’s £130million release clause during the summer, Fernandez has insisted the South American will be a Barcelona player for ‘the rest of his life’.

As quoted by Sky Sports, he told Spanish publication Marca; “We are currently working on Neymar‘s contract extension and I don’t think there will be any type of problem. I have no doubt in my mind that Neymar will spend the rest of his life at Barcelona.”
