According to reports from The Express this morning, Manchester United are on ‘red alert’ amid reports that Neymar’s contract talks at Barcelona have stalled.
The 23 year-old has emerged as one of the top attacking talents in world football since moving to the Nou Camp from Santos in summer 2013; his return of 39 goals in 51 appearances last season helping Barcelona claim a La Liga title, a Champions League title and a Copa del Rey.
The winger-forward is also a shining star of the international scene, featuring prominently for Brazil at last summer’s World Cup and boasting 46 goals and 67 caps for Selecao. He’s already fifth in Brazil’s all-time top scorer charts.
Manchester United were linked with Neymar towards the end of the summer transfer window amid reports that he would ‘consider‘ an Old Trafford switch and the 5 foot 9 attacker has since admitted to holding discussions with the Red Devils.
“We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete. I heard that there were offers, but none made it to me,” said the Barca star in September. The Telegraph have since claimed Barcelona intend to offer Neymar a £500k per-week contract to fend off interest from United.
But according to The Express, who cite reports from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, talks over a new contract have stalled – with the South American in ‘no such rush’ to extend his current Nou Camp deal past summer 2018.
If Barcelona don’t agree new terms with Neymar before next summer, we’ll likely see a bid from Manchester United.
