Valdes

According to reports from The Express on Saturday, Victor Valdes’ Manchester United nightmare could be brought to an end by a move to Sevilla in January.

The former Barcelona No.1 joined the Old Trafford ranks as a free agent in January 2015 and made two Premier League appearances for the Red Devils at the end of last season.

But manager Louis van Gaal surprisingly revealed in July that the 2010 World Cup winner had been placed on the transfer list after refusing to represent United’s U21 squad. He came close to joining Besiktas in the final week of the summer transfer window but the deal collapsed at the last minute.

Whilst Valdes has spent the season watching from the stands, he’s also been linked with moves to Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Premier League champions have allegedly shortlisted Valdes for emergency loan, should Asmir Begovic join No.1 Thibaut Courtois on the injury list or be suspended before the January window, whilst the Reds want him to provide competition for Simon Mignolet.

Although Manchester United are prepared to cancel the 33 year-old’s contract prematurely, they will only do so if he agrees not to join another Premier League club – meaning they’re unlikely to entertain an emergency Chelsea loan and an Anfield switch would have to wait until his deal expires at the end of the season.

But according to reports from The Express, who cite Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, La Liga side Sevilla are looking to take advantage of United’s rather unique stipulation and have already began negotiations with the Red Devils over a free transfer.

The Europa League champions are in the market for a new goalkeeper following an injury to second-choice Beto, whilst No.1 Sergio Rico has struggled to impress this season.

As Valdes was included in Man United’s registered Premier League squad, he won’t be allowed to represent Sevilla until the new year – regardless of whether he signs a contract at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in the coming weeks.
