According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has ruled out a reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool; whilst the new Anfield boss could recall Lazar Markovic from his Fenerbahce loan spell in January.

Since Klopp’s appointment earlier this month, a number of Dortmund stars have been linked with a move to Merseyside, most particularly centre-back Neven Subotic (who also worked under the towering German at Mainz) and German international Ilkay Gundogan.

The 24 year-old seemed set to leave Westfalenstadion during the summer as his contract entered it’s final year, with Arsenal and Manchester United representing the Premier League’s more interesting parties, but unexpectedly extended it until 2017 in July.

Quizzed upon whether a January move to Liverpool could be on the cards, the 15 cap international replied; “This is an issue that is always floating around. I am very happy with BVB and feel very comfortable here. Of course, I can imagine remaining here beyond the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, outcast winger Lazar Markovic, who was loaned to Fenerbahce during the summer after an underwhelming debut campaign with Liverpool, could return to Anfield sooner than expected.

Klopp is reportedly a huge fan of the Serbian international, who the Reds signed for £20million last summer, and may exercise the option to cut short his loan spell in January. Thus far, the 21 year-old has manged just four appearances across all competitions with the Turkish outfit.
