Out with the old, in with the new, as the ironically old saying goes.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool reign kicked off on Saturday with a scoreless draw against Tottenham Hotspur but needless to say, it will still be some time before the German truly gets to imprint his own ideals upon the Anfield squad.
That will require a spate of new signings but in order to make room for them, the Reds gaffer needs to offload a bit of deadwood first – something which is hardly in short supply on Merseyside.
Indeed, a poor record in the transfer market was one of the biggest factors behind public opinion turning against Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers, who spent a rather incredible £291.5million in the space of three years with excruciatingly little to show for it.
