According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has revealed he “never” thought about joining Arsenal during the summer.

The France international boasts 140 goals in 289 appearances for Los Blancos, including a potent return of seven goals in eight outings across all competitions this season, but doubts over his future at the Bernabeu emerged after Rafa Benitez’s appointment in June, amid claims the former Liverpool and Chelsea manager would struggle to find room for the 27 year-old in his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

That lead to continuous reports of a move to Arsenal during the summer transfer window as the north London outfit searched for world-class firepower, whilst Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has recently claimed Manchester United also attempted to sign the 6 foot 2 striker.

According to Mirror Football, however, Bemzena has now revealed he “never” thought of swapping the Bernabeu for the Emirates and even laughed off the rumours with his brother.

When asked if he’d considered a Gunners move, the former Lyon star told French publication Journal du Dimanche; “Never. I laugh about it with my brother and my friends. We wait for the media to come out with these rumours. In my opinion, I think that Real and Barca are the pinnacle in football. Why would I leave? I’m a starter for the best club in the world. I am happy; it’s that simple.”

The Gunners were linked with Benzema yet again earlier this month but his recent comments suggest a move is still incredibly unlikely.
