According to reports from Manchester Evening News, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hinted he could make a signing during the January transfer window.

The Red Devils have spent around £250million since the Iron Tulip took the Old Trafford hot seat in summer 2014, whilst a huge cohort of former stars have been booted out the exit door.

The likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Danny Welbeck, Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley, Nani and Shinji Kagawa all left the club either on loan or permanently during his first season in charge whilst the Dutchman parted with Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, Adnan Januzaj and Javier Hernandez during the summer.

It has left the Red Devils with one of the smallest squads in the Premier League with just 24 seniors, but van Gaal has revealed that’s exactly how he likes it. “I believe in smaller squads because you need perspective otherwise the motivation is a doubt. I have always preferred small selections (squads). I think I have the smallest selection in the Premier League. Last season we had 24 players,” said the Dutchman.

However, van Gaal then added; “I think 22 players and three goalkeepers is enough so I am still one short,” suggesting he could be on the lookout for a final recruit in January.

Manchester United have been linked with a number of potential signings for the winter window in recent weeks, including Tottenham’s £50million-rated Harry Kane, Valencia’s bosman-bound Sofiane Feghouli and Red Star Belgrade prodigy Marko Grujic.
