It appears signing another goal scorer is still a major priority for Louis van Gaal, but one prolific forward he won’t be bringing to Manchester United any time soon is Barcelona star Neymar.
Indeed, the Brazil international was strongly linked with an Old Trafford switch during the summer and his father has since confirmed that the Red Devils launched a formal bid – allegedly somewhere around the £139million mark.
United are still interested but in a damning blow to their transfer hopes, Neymar has insisted twice in the space of a fortnight that he intends to extend his Nou Camp contract past its current expiration in 2018.
