Godfred Donsah

According to reports from The Express this afternoon, Chelsea representatives have traveled to Italy to complete a deal for Cagliari midfielder Godfred Donsah.

The Ghana international impressed in a cameo capacity for the Italian outfit last season, amassing two goals and one assist in 20 Serie A appearances, and also represented his country during the U20 World Cup in New Zealand earlier this summer.

He’s been likened to former Blues star and compatriot Michael Essien and was linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City by Goal.com in May.

But Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini confirmed earlier this month that he’s been directly approached by the Premier League champions – along with their Serie A counterparts Juventus – telling reporters; “We had a chat a few weeks ago with Juventus and Chelsea, but I am stunned by all these rumours around him. The lad needs to grow up with us.”

And according to The Express, the Blues have ramped up their interest in the 19 year-old following the poor start to their Premier League title defence, sending officials to Italy to try and thrash out a deal.

The British tabloid rate Donsah at around £10million. It’s believed Cagliari have already turned down a £4.2million offer from the Old Lady.

Wenger is such a wimp in the transfer market it makes me want to vomit. So many players get signed by lesser clubs because their managers are more active and forthright. Wenger gives players no enthusiasm to come to the Emirates. What a Dodo. How can we win the PL with his deluded transfer windows always leaving us playing catch up.

I dont know why Chelsea bother buying youth, they never play them. They loan them all till they’ve had about 4 clubs in total and then sell them. Every time. Aside from Courtois can anyone think of a player they brought in young and then didn’t lay and sold on for profit?
