Mourinho has built an empire in preparation for this season

According to reports from The Express yesterday evening, Chelsea have held talks with Italian outfit Cagliari regarding Ghanaian midfielder Godfred Donsah – who has been dubbed ‘the new Michael Essien‘.

The 19 year-old made 21 Serie A appearances last season, scoring twice and grabbing one assist, and also represented his country during the summer’s U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

And Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini has now confirmed he’s been approached by two clubs regarding Donsah’s availability – Premier League champions Chelsea and their Serie A counterparts Juventus.

As quoted by The Express, Giulini has told reporters; “We had a chat a few weeks ago with Juventus and Chelsea, but I am stunned by all these rumours around him. The lad needs to grow up with us.”

The British tabloid also claim Cagliari have already turned down a £4.2million bid from the Old Lady.

But Donsah by no means the only Ghanaian on the Stamford Bridge radar; the Blues are also keen on countryman Abdul Rahman Baba, aged 21, following an impressive Bundesliga campaign with Augsburg – which has also seen him linked with Arsenal and Manchester United.

The left-back is Jose Mourinho’s preferred replacement for Filipe Luis, who has returned to Atletico Madrid, and agent Sascha Empacher confirmed yesterday that he’s already agreed a contract with the west London outfit.

However, negotiations over Augsburg’s £17.6million valuation are still ongoing.
