According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Augsburg defender Abdul Rahman Baba in a £14million deal.

The 21 year-old hugely impressed during his first (and now only) season with the German outfit, claiming four assists in 31 appearances whilst averaging the second-most tackles per match (3.5) of any player in the Bundesliga.

As a consequence, the Ghana international has been linked with a host of top European clubs clubs this summer, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid in May, Arsenal in June, and Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma last month.

But the Premier League champions agreed personal terms with Abdul Rahman Baba some time ago, as confirmed by his agent at the start of the month, and arranged a fee last week.

And according to Mirror Football, they’ve now completed their signing of the African prodigy on a five-year contract. They’ll pay £14million plus an extra £6million in appearance-related bonuses – predominantly centred around making over 100 appearances for the west London club.

Upon signing, Abdul Rahman Baba told Chelsea’s official website; “I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I can’t wait to train with my new team-mates and very much looking forward to working with them and Mr Mourinho.

“I am also looking forward to having the opportunity to meet the fans as soon as possible,” he added.
