According to reports from The Guardian this afternoon, Chelsea have agreed a fee with Augsburg for in-demand left-back Abdul Rahman Baba.

The 21 year-old was the star of the show during his first (and now only) campaign at the SGL arena, claiming four assists in 31 appearances whilst averaging the second-most tackles per match (3.5) of any player in the Bundesliga.

The Ghana international has resultantly been linked with a host of top European clubs clubs throughout the course of the summer, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid in May, Arsenal and Chelsea in June, and Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma last month.

But it always seemed a case of when rather than if the Premier League champions would secure a deal for the prodigious defender. Reports from the end of July claimed Abdul Rahman Baba had already agreed personal terms with the west Londoners, which his agent, Sascha Empacher, confirmed last week, telling reporters; “It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement. We on our side are agreed.”

And according to The Guardian, Chelsea and Augsburg have indeed reached an agreement over price. The Blues will pay £14million up front with £6million more in potential add-ons – including a huge payout if he makes over 100 appearances for his new club.

Abdul Rahman has been signed as the long-term replacement to Brazil international Filipe Luis, who returned to Atletico Madrid last week.
