Alexandre Pato

According to reports from The Telegraph yesterday morning, Chelsea and Manchester United have been offered Brazil international Alexandre Pato for the meager price of £11million.

The 5 foot 9 front-man broke onto the scene as a 16 year-old at Internacional, netting six times in his first 10 league appearances before being snapped up by AC Milan in August 2007.

He recorded 51 goals in 117 Serie A appearances for the Italian giants yet managed all but one in his first four seasons at the club, with recurring injuries severely impacting his final 18 months at the San Siro.

The 25 year-old has gone someway to resurrecting his career during an 18 month loan spell with Sao Paulo, boasting 30 goals in 74 outings across all competitions, and according to The Telegraph is now pushing for a move back to Europe.

The British newspaper claim parent club Corinthians have offered Pato to Premier League title contenders Chelsea and Manchester United for £11million – whilst Stoke City and Sunderland are also known admirers.

The Blues seem unlikely to launch a bid after acquiring Pedro from Barcelona last week. But Manchester United’s need for added firepower – scoring only once in their first three Premier League fixtures – could see them make an offer, with just a week of the summer transfer window remaining.
