Henrikh Mkhitaryan

According to reports from The Express yesterday evening, Liverpool have revived their interest in Henrikh Mkhitaryan but now face competition from Manchester United to sign the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

The five-time Armenian Footballer of the Year is best famed for his consistent supply of goals from midfield, boasting a career return of 94 goals in 239 league appearances an 14 in 60 during his two-year spell at Westfalenstadion.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers tried to bring the 26 year-old to Anfield in summer 2013 from former club Shaktar Donetsk but he elected to join the Black Yellows instead in a €25million deal, telling reporters; “Liverpool have a great past but Borussia Dortmund has a great present. I made this decision with my heart.”

And according to The Express, who cite reports from Mirror Football, Liverpool are now set to revive their interest with a £15million bid for the 52-cap international.

However, the British tabloid also document long-term interest from Manchester United – and claim Mkhitaryan ‘retains admirers from all over Europe’ – so we could see an opposing bid from the Reds’ northwest rivals.

It follows comments from the attacking midfielder’s agent earlier  in the season, who said in February; “Henrikh wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season. We will have to wait and see what we can do.”
