Ashley Young

According to reports from Manchester United’s official website, veteran winger Ashley Young has agreed a three-year contract at Old Trafford.

The 30 year-old joined the Red Devils from Aston Villa in summer 2011 but has spent much of his Old Trafford career battling injuries and accusations of diving.

However, the England international reemerged as a United regular under Louis van Gaal last season, amassing two goals and five assists in 26 Premier League appearances, and even filled in at left-back in the absence of Luke Shaw.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have both been linked with the former Watford man this summer but he’s been expected to sign a new deal at Carrington for some time.

And according to Manchester United’s official website, Young has now put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the option to extend it for an extra year.

Although the Red Devils haven’t officially divulged into his salary, The Daily Star believe his current £120k per-week terms will likely be maintained – which works out at £18.7million over the course of three seasons.

Young has told the club’s website; “I am delighted to have signed a new contract. The spirit and motivation amongst this team is very high and we are all determined to make this a season to remember. All I have ever wanted to do is play football and to be able to continue to do that at the biggest club in the world means everything to me and my family.”

Likewise, manager Louis van Gaal has said; “We are delighted that Ashley has signed a new contract. Ashley is a very multi-functional player. He took to the wing-back position with great confidence and flourished on the wing throughout last season. Ashley is always very professional and has a great presence in the dressing room.”
