According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Arsenal could announce the signing of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema next Tuesday.

The 27 year-old boasts 133 goals in 281 appearances for Los Blancos, helping fire them to a La Liga title, the 2014 Champions League title and two Copa del Reys since his €35million arrival summer in 2009.

But Rafa Benitez plans to utilise three-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo as a lone centre-forward this season, which has put Benzema’s future in doubt.

He’s been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United for much of the summer, with some sources claiming the Emirates outfit have already seen a £32million bid rejected.

And according to The Daily Star, Benzema could become a Gunner by next Tuesday via a £45million deal. They cite Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, who wrote on Twitter; “Imminent closing for Benzema to Arsenal: Tuesday could be the day of medicals and announcement.”

The Star aren’t the most reliable of sources but the report coincides with recent comments from ex-QPR striker Rodney Marsh, who told talkSPORT earlier this week: “I had a phone call from a mate of mine, and he’s been right on many things, and he said that he believes Real Madrid have accepted a bid somewhere in the region of £48million for Benzema from Arsenal.”
