According to reports from The Guardian this afternoon, Manchester United have turned their attentions to Southampton winger Sadio Mane after missing out on Chelsea-bound Barcelona star Pedro.

The Red Devils seemed set to sign the 2010 World Cup winner; reports claimed they’d already agreed personal terms with the 27 year-old and chief executive Ed Woodward flew out to Barcelona to conclude a deal earlier this week.

But as This Is Futbol revealed this morning, Pedro is now on verge of joining Premier League champions Chelsea instead following an apparent disagreement over United’s valuation of the Spain international.

And according to The Guardian, the Old Trafford outfit have now identified Southampton star Sadio Mane as their preferred alternative.

The former Red Bull Salzburg forward has hugely impressed since arriving at St. Mary’s last summer, going on to bag 10 goals in 30 league appearances during his debut season – including the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history in a 6-1 thumping of Aston Villa.

Although it seems unlikely the Saints will sell with so little of the summer transfer window remaining, The Guardian expect United to launch a bid around the £15million mark.
