Nicolas Otamendi (Valencia)

According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi is hoping to conclude a move to Manchester United ‘within days’.

The Argentina international has just come to the end of a formidable campaign at the Mestalla, netting six times in 35 La Liga appearances whilst averaging 2.9 tackles, 3.1 interceptions, 7.3 clearances and 3.5 successful aerial duels per match.

That’s triggered interest from Premier League title contenders Manchester City and Manchester United, whilst La Liga giants Real Madrid were also linked with the 27 year-old last month.

Reports yesterday revealed that both Manchester outfits are expected to launch rival bids for the 6 foot defender at some point this week, after holding discussions with agent Jorge Mendes on Saturday.

And according to Mirror Football, who cite Spanish website Fichajes, Otamendi is hoping a transfer to Old Trafford can be completed within the next few days, having already informed Valencia that he won’t return to pre-season training next week.

The former FC Porto star’s contract is known to include a £35million release clause, but City and United have been reluctant to activate it thus far.
