According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, England international Jack Wilshere wants clarification over his role within the Arsenal squad. 

The 23 year-old is highly rated by manager Arsene Wenger but has struggled to hold down a first team role due to aspate of recurring injuries, which has forced him to feature in a variety of positions across the Gunners midfield over the last few seasons.

He’s also been utilised as a deep-lying playmaker by Roy Hodgson at the base of England’s midfield diamond; a role he’s yet to undertake for the north London outfit.

Wilshere, who Manchester City are considering a £40million bid for according to reports from The Daily Star last month, now faces competition from Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin, Tomas Rosicky and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to land a central role in Arsenal’s engine room.

Speaking at the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, the 2011 PFA Young Player of the Year told reporters; ““I haven’t spoken to the boss about what plans he has for me — but I will do before the start of the season.

“At the moment, I’m just concentrating on getting fit. I had a good end to the season and I just want to keep it going,” he added.
