According to reports from The Independent this afternoon, Manchester United fans would prefer the club to sign Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi this summer than Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos.
The Spain international has emerged as Louis van Gaal’s priority transfer target in recent weeks as he seeks to add world-class quality and experience to the heart of his defence.
United have already seen a £32million bid rejected for the 2010 World Cup winner and allegedly agreed personal terms, although Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez has once again insisted he won’t be allowed to leave the Bernabeu this summer.

Valencia’s Otamendi is another centre-back option on the Old Trafford radar; and he’s also emerged as a potential target for local rivals Manchester City.
And according to The Independent, the majority of United fans would rather see the latter turn up at Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window. Their poll revealed 52% of supporters prefer the Argentina international to his Real Madrid counterpart.
It’s likely due to Los Blancos allegedly valuing the 29 year-old at a whopping £63million. Otamendi, on the other hand, is available through a £35million release clause.
