Chelsea will launch improved bid for Man United target Today

John Stones

According to reports from The Daily Mail this morning, Chelsea will launch an improved bid for Everton defender John Stones at some point today.

The 21 year-old has emerged as one of the most promising home-grown defenders in the Premier League since moving to Goodison Park from Barnsley in January 2013, earning a place on England’s stand-by list for the 2014 World Cup and a nomination for the 2014 Golden Boy award.

That dramatic rise has caught the attention of Chelsea and Manchester United, who are both considered to be long-term admirers of Stones’, alongside Manchester City.

The Premier League champions launched a £20million bid last week which was rejected by the Toffees, immediately leading to reports of an improved offer in the pipeline.

And according to The Daily Mail, the Blues’ improved bid will be lodged today – worth £26million and with the added incentive of Stones receiving Oriol Romeu’s No.6 shirt. The British newspaper also speculate a Chelsea player could be sent to Goodison on loan to sweeten the deal, with Victor Moses in the frame.

That still may not be enough to secure the 6 foot 2 youngster’s signature, however. According to reports last weekend, Everton want a Premier League record fee for a defender if they’re to sell this summer.
