Ben Pearson

According to Manchester United’s official website, academy duo Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell have joined League One side Barnsley on loan until January 2016.

Pearson, aged 20, returns to the club he spent last season with on loan, making 21 league appearances as the Tykes recorded a disappointing mid-table finish in England’s third tier.

The young midfielder, who joined the Old Trafford set up in 2004 but is yet to make an inaugural first team appearance, will now be joined for his second spell with Barnsley by fellow Red Devils youngster Joe Rothwell.

Another 20 year-old midfielder, Rothwell moved to Blackpool on loan last January but managed just three league appearances amid dire circumstances at Bloomfield road. The club crashed out of the Championship in bottom place as a rift developed between the fan base and owner Karl Oyston.

Both Perason and Rothwell, who boast a combined 34 caps for England across the junior levels, have both expressed their delight at joining the Yorkshire outfit on loan.

Perason said; “I had a great time here last season – making my professional debut – and want to pick up where I left off but help take us that one step further.”

Meanwhile, Rothwell said: “I’m really excited to be here. I’ve heard a lot about the place from Ben Pearson. He couldn’t speak highly enough of his time here and I just can’t wait to get going.”
