Arsenal eye £30m alternative to Man United strike target

Aubameyang has been an impressive replacement for Lewandowski.

According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Arsenal are targeting Borussia Dortmund star Pierre Emerick Aubameyang as a cheaper alternative to Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

The France striker is on the Emirates radar following the revelation that new Bernabeu boss Rafa Benitez intends to use Cristiano Ronaldo as a centre-forward next season and he’s also been linked with a move to Manchester United.

But earlier today Arsene Wenger dismissed reports of a £40million bid for the 27 year-old, following claims that he’d personally spoken with Benzema regarding a summer move to north London.

And The Daily Star believe the Gunners gaffer is now eyeing a cheaper alternative in Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, a lightening quick winger-forward who boasts 42 goals in 95 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.

Citing German publication RevierSport, they claim Wenger is preparing a £30million bid for the 26 year-old – around £10million less than Benzema’s widely mooted price-tag.
