According to reports from The Express this morning, Arsenal remain hopeful of hijacking Bayern Munich’s £28million bid for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Chile international has emerged as one of the most complete centre-mids in world football since joining Juventus from Bayer Leverkusen in summer 2011, last season bagging seven goals and four assists in 28 Serie A appearances whilst averaging 3.1 tackles and 1.3 created chances per match.

The 28 year-old came close to joining Manchester United last summer and has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal, but reports earlier this week revealed he’s become a priority target for Bayern Munich – who view him as an ideal replacement for now-Red Devils star Bastian Schweinsteiger.

They’ve believed to have agreed a £28million fee with the Bundesliga giants but according to The Express, there’s still a chance Arsenal could hijack the deal at the last minute.

The injury to Mikel Arteta on Arsenal’s pre-season tour has forced Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to reconsider a move for Vidal, and it’s claimed he’s now prepared to match Bayern’s £28million bid.
