According to reports from Mirror Football this afternoon, Tottenham are hoping to fend off interest in Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane by offering them captaincy roles at White Hart Lane.

Both have been linked with moves to Manchester United following impressive campaigns. Lloris recorded the most saves of any goalkeeper in the Premier League’s top seven – an impressive 79 – last term, whilst Kane bagged 21 league goals to become the division’s top scoring Englishman and the PFA Young Player of the Year.

The France international, who has been billed as a potential replacement for Real Madrid-bound No.1 David De Gea at Old Trafford, once again reiterated his desire to play in the Champions League earlier this month. Meanwhile, Manchester United have been linked with a £40million bid for 21 year-old Kane.

In an effort to stop either joining the Carrington ranks, however, Spurs will offer both significant roles within the first team squad according to Mirror Fotball. Lloris will take the captain’s armband permanently from Younes Kaboul and Kane will act as the club’s vice-skipper.

Whether that’s enough to rebuff the advances of the Red Devils, however, remains to be seen.
