Nathaniel Clyne

According to reports from Mirror Football this afternoon, Southampton have accepted a £12.5million Liverpool bid for defender Nathaniel Clyne.

The 24 year-old has just come to the end of a strong campaign at St. Mary’s, playing a vital role in the Saints recording the second-best goals conceded column in the Premier League by averaging the fifth-most tackles per match, 3.3, of any player in the division.

That’s seen him break into the Three Lions’ starting Xi and attract interest from some of the Premier League’s top clubs, namely Chelsea, Liverpool, as This Is Futbol revealed in May.

The Reds saw a £10million bid rejected last month, but Clyne’s now-agreed move to Anfield was always seemed inevitable. Not only is there just one term remaining on his St. Mary’s contract, but the right-back has already rebuffed interest from Manchester United, whilst Ronald Koeman signed a replacement in Portugal international Cedric Soares last week.

News of Liverpool’s £12.5million bid for the former Crystal Palace youngster first emerged yesterday afternoon and the south coast outfit have now accepted. The deal is structured at an initial £10.5million with £2million in add-ons.

Clyne will complete his Merseyside switch next week after returning from holiday in Las Vegas. He’ll join former Southampton stars Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert at Anfield.

Never trust anything said by the Mirror about Liverpool. The newspaper is infested with scousers and it should be renamed the Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool are basically the groundfeeders scraping up the bargain basement crap that no-one else wants.
