According to reports from The Stoke Sentinal this morning, Stoke City are set to cash in on contract rebel Asmir Begovic this summer.
The Bosnian international has demonstrated a remarkable consistency during his five campaigns as the Potters’ No.1, but he’s yet to extend his contract past summer 2016 and Mark Hughes’ side fear losing him for free in a year’s time.
The 27 year-old’s situation is believed to have triggered interest from Arsenal and Liverpool – as This Is Futbol revealed last month.
They’re both keen on summer deals for Chelsea’s former No.1 Petr Cech, but following Jose Mourinho’s public reluctance to sell him to another English club – as This Is Futbol reported at the weekend – the latest rumours from The Guardian claim the 32 year-old is currently in talks with Besiktas.
Begovic would be a viable alternative, at the apparent cost of just £8million. He’s also been mooted as a potential replacement for David De Gea at Manchester United.
Hughes has left the former Portsmouth youngster out of his last two matchday squads to Swansea and Tottenham in favour of prodigious understudy Jack Butland – as This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month – suggesting the Britannia outfit are already preparing for life without him.
