Jackson Martinez

According to reports from The Express yesterday afternoon, Porto star Jackson Martinez has refuted reports claiming he’s already agreed to join AC Milan ahead of next season.

The Colombian international, who was talking at the Copa America, has been nothing short of prolific since joining the Dragons three summers ago, amassing 92 goals in 132 appearances across all competitions to claim three consecutive Primeira Liga Golden Boots and fire Porto to their last league title in 2013.

The 28 year-old confirmed his intentions to leave Estadio do Dragao earlier this month as reports emerged of a £25million release clause, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all linked – as This Is Futbol revealed two weeks ago.

On June 12th Porto chairman Pinto da Costa told Portuguese TV channel Porto Canal that the 6 foot 1 striker, who netted 32 times this season, had agreed to join AC Milan, as quoted by The Daily Mail; “Jackson Martinez has chosen Milan. I learned just now that Jackson has chosen Milan. This is what he wants, the destination is irrelevant as far as I am concerned. I want him to be happy.”

But Martinez has now insisted he’s yet to decide upon his future – with some news outlets even claiming AC Milan have dropped their £25million bid altogether.

“The day we’ll know where my future goes is near. I still haven’t decided, as I’m focused on the Copa America right now,” he said at the Copa America in Chile.

“It’s a big club in one of the best leagues in the world. We have to see if an offer will become a reality or not,” he added, in regards to rumoured interest from Arsenal.

Whether the striker’s comments will convince his Premier League suitors to revive their interest remains to be seen.
