Edinson Cavani

According to reports from The Daily Mail this morning, PSG front-man Edinson Cavani has agreed to join Serie A champions Juventus.

The 28 year-old’s future with the Parisians has been shrouded in doubt for some time, despite initially joining them for a club-record £55million fee just two summers ago.

Last month, following a touchline spat with manager Laurent Blanc, Cavani’s agent refused to rule out a summer move to either Serie A or the Premier League – as reported by This Is Futbol.

Last week, rumours spread of the Uruguay international handing in an official transfer request at Parc de Princes – as This Is Futbol revealed – and yesterday, in a candid interview with GQ, the striker claimed he ‘didn’t know’ whether he’d stay on at PSG, before lamenting his role as a secondary striker to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“I don’t know whether I will stay at PSG. I might stay, I might leave… You never know what will happen in football,” said Cavani, as This Is Futbol revealed yesterday.

“When I arrived at PSG, I was forced to play on the wing,” he added. “People don’t understand how much that has influenced my performances. I would score a lot more if I was played as a striker. I want to play as a striker. I would without a doubt do much better in my own position.”

Arsenal and Manchester United have both been mooted as potential suitors of the 6 foot forward, who boasts returns of 53 goals in 92 appearances for PSG and 104 goals in 138 outings for former club Napoli, by publications such as The Express and The Daily Star.

But Juventus Managing Director Beppe Marotta  admitted earlier this week that the club are ‘interested’ in the South American – as reported by The Express – telling reporters; “Cavani and Dybala? They are two important players, not only us know that. I could say that we are interested in them.”

And The Daily Mail now claim, via reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, that Cavani has agreed to join the Old Lady – pending on the final nod of approval from PSG.
