According to reports from The Express this morning, Arsenal are currently amid negotiations to extend the contract of Liverpool target Theo Walcott.

The 26 year-old boasts 72 goals in 294 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions, in addition to 38 caps and five goals for England.

But he’s struggled with injuries over the last two campaigns, making just 21 Premier League appearances, and now finds himself surpassed in the pecking order by the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck.

With the winger-forward’s contract now verging upon it’s final year, Liverpool have been linked with his services ahead of the summer transfer window. Some have suggested he could be used in a part-exchange deal that would see contract rebel Raheem Sterling go the other way – as This Is Futbol reported last month.

But Arsene Wenger has now revealed he’s determined to keep the Three Lions star at The Emirates, with negotiations over extended terms already underway.

“Yes we are already talking to him. Today I’m not in that kind of mode of thinking because I just want him to stay,” said the Frenchman, as quoted by The Express.

“When you go into negotiations with a player the desire is you want him to stay.“We are always in the mode of being successful. A case of failure will only be in December next season,” he added.
