Cech-ing in at Arsenal

According to an exclusive report from Goal.com, Arsenal have ‘no chance’ of signing Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech this summer.

This Is Futbol informed you last week of the Gunners’ interest in the 32 year-old, who looks set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after failing to regain his No.1 spot from the supremely talented Thibaut Courtois – especially with just a year remaining on his current contract.

Mirror Football claimed in March that Roman Abramovich would let Cech join any club he wants in the coming window out of respect for his decade-spanning service in west London.

But Goal.com have now revealed the Premier League champions in waiting won’t sell the Czech international to a divisional rival. Arsenal are now second in the English table and currently look like Chelsea’s biggest threat to the title next season.

They quote an Arsenal source as saying; “Cech is still one of the best goalkeepers around and he would be the perfect signing, but the message from Chelsea is not to bother wasting our time.”

It’s believed Arsene Wenger viewed the three-time Golden Glove winner as an ideal upgrade on the out-of-form Wojciech Szczesny.

Revelations today could cause him to seek alternatives such as Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic – as This Is Futbol revealed yesterday, he’s reluctant to enter contract negotiations with the Potters – or make summer signing David Ospina, who has five clean sheets in eleven Premier League outings this term, his long-term No.1
