According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Barcelona are targeting Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.
The 25 year-old only signed for the Red Devils last summer in a £25million deal from Athletic Bilbao, but recent performances – particularly, a brace-grabbing display against Aston Villa last weekend – have caught the eye of the Nou Camp outfit.
They’ve in fact been monitoring the midfielder since his Real Zaragoza days and now view him as the potential missing piece of their ‘midfield revolution’, as claimed by Mirror Football.
With Xavi approaching retirement and Andreas Iniesta not far behind at 31, both need replacing over the course of the next few years. The Catalan giants signed Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla last summer and now want Herrera to further strengthen their midfield options.
Manchester United will only be too aware of the Nou Camp’s allure, but Barcelona won’t be able to sign the Spaniard until the end of their transfer embargo in summer 2016.
