According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Everton and Liverpool face a new competitor in their race to sign Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt – Steve Bruce’s Hull City.

The 20 year-old has shown fantastic progress since his Championship debut for the Elland Road outfit in 2013. Last season, he won the Whites’ Young Player of the Year award and earlier this term he claimed the Football League Young Player of the Month award for November.

His nine goals and two assists in 33 appearances have been vital in steering Leeds away from the danger of relegation form the English second tier  this term and earned call ups to both the England U19s and England U20s – a rise to prominence which has attracted interest from a plethora of Premier League clubs.

Everton and Liverpool’s interest was first reported in March, again by Mirror Football, but they’re now joined by The Tigers.

In the same week the Reds have also been linked to Leeds wing-back Sam Byram, as reported by This Is Futbol, Elland Road chairman Andrew Umbers has insisted the club’s young players are off limits.

“Our young players are not for sale. Contract negotiations are foremost in our minds,” he said.
