According to reports from The Express this afternoon, Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann is considering a £43million summer move to Premier League table toppers Chelsea.
The France international moved to Vincente Calderon only last summer in a £24million deal, but his fantastic form this season has attracted interest from Chelsea and Manchester United – as This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month.
The winger-forward is amid arguably the greatest spell of his career, adapting well to Diego Simeone’s uniquely disciplined philosophy to net 25 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions – including 22 goals in La Liga.
The Daily Mail revealed earlier this week that the 24 year-old’s contract includes a £43million release clause, which The Express claim Chelsea are now prepared to activate, or alternatively offer defender Filipe Luis in a cash-plus-player deal.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich are both long-term admirers, however, and Atletico are reportedly planning to up Griezmann’s buy-out fee to ward off suitors. It could rise to £70million – but there’s no guarantee he’ll sign a new contract.
